From Lori Short, Program Coordinator in St. George, Utah
Here we are 2018!
Welcome to a new year that brings me hope and good cheer. I am excited and looking forward to a great year. Our CASA program is growing and we are helping more children with every new advocate added. It is because of you that others are joining us.
Thanks for sharing yourself and giving of your time and efforts for children. I believe each one of us are blessed with certain talents. I see it in my own life and in yours as well. What comes easy for one does not come easy for another. But together using our skills and abilities we can accomplish so much good. I feel like our work is never done. Sometimes that can overwhelm me and I feel a sense of sadness thinking that there are just too many children suffering. But then I think of all of you and how you hang in there and keep visiting and looking out after the kids on your case. You step up and voice what should happen for the kids. That is not always an easy thing to do. But it is so important.
The job is not to just to visit the kids. It is finding the resources to help them. And being willing to advocate for those resources. It is using your talents, skills, and abilities to make the right recommendations to the GAL. I think together we can share ideas and thoughts with each other to strengthen our role as child advocates. We want to make a difference and that can happen by learning more and using our talents and skills. We will be starting a mentoring program and a buddy system to help each of us. I am looking forward for you to get to know each other because you are all such amazing people. When I think of the talents each of you have I can see a better and brighter future for the children and for our CASA program. So get excited with me and plan on some fun times! Together we will help children and that alone is worth it.
Thanks for all you do and Happy New Year!
